From Julian he moved to West Hills HS. Serving as Defensive Coordinator, he helped guide the Wolf Pack to three League Championships in six seasons.  After West Hills, Coach Burton served as the Defensive Coordinator and Defensive line Coach at Grossmont College  In five years the team compiled a 56-6 record and won four Conference Championships.   In 2005, Coach Burton helped guide the Griffins to the National Championship. Most recently, Coach Burton served as the Head Coach at Otay Ranch High School.  There he led the team to the CIF play-offs both seasons he was at the helm and to the highest ranking in school history.  He also lead the JV to two consecutive League Championships and to an undefeated 2008 season.  During the 2008 season, he was named the San Diego Chargers/PPR Coach of the Week.

As a prep, Coach Burton attended El Capitan High School in Lakeside.  A standout performer in football, basketball, and baseball, as well as an honor student, he was recently inducted into the El Capitan Hall of Fame.  Coach Burton went on to attend San Diego State University and was a member of the 1986 W.A.C.
